Artist Statement
As an artist, my passion lies in creating pretty, and occasionally useful, objects out of wood, metal, and whatever materials may be at hand. I specialize in jewelry and small home decor items made primarily from copper, silver, and wood. What sets my work apart is my focus on transforming the mundane into something unique.
One of the key aspects of my creative process is the use of salvaged construction waste and found materials. I believe in giving new life to discarded objects and finding beauty in the unexpected. My work is largely experimental, driven by the characteristics of the materials and my ability to manipulate them. I love using a torch as it not only allows for metalwork and fabrication but also creates one-of-a-kind finishes on copper and wood. Recently I have added plastic to my arsenal of repurposed materials, which I also transform thru the use of heat.
The art of manipulating and finishing various materials is crucial in my designs, as it helps bring out the inherent beauty and story of natural and repurposed materials. Through my work, I aim to highlight the unique qualities of each material and showcase their individual narratives.
In essence, my work is driven by a material-centric approach, where the materials themselves guide the design process. Through experimentation and the transformative power of art, I aim to create objects that capture the imagination and celebrate the untapped potential of everyday materials, using them in unexpected ways to create a counterpoint interplay between natural and manmade.
